The bass guitar is a stringed instrument that resembles an electric guitar, but with a longer neck and a higher scale capability. Every bass player has two responsibilities in a musical group. They are to provide the rhythmic function and the harmonic function. Rhythm is a constant beat that the bass player must provide through a steady pulse during the entire performance. Bass plays a vital role in harmonics because all the notes from the different instruments are relative to the base note. This will expand the knowledge and the player will gain valuable experience from the different styles. In addition, strummers must not rush to play too fast in the beginning because the finer points of the bass guitar might be missed. As the saying goes, “Slow and steady wins the race” and this saying is very appropriate for the bass guitarist. Another important quality that is required for learning bass is patience. There is much to learn, and it will definitely take time and patience. It is impossible to learn bass overnight therefore; one must be willing to put in the required time and effort in learning the instrument over extended periods. These tips along with good instruction will help an individual to become a master bassist.
