Question by Mr Orange Kitty: Can a guitarist be a good bass teacher?
I am a complete beginner. The closest bass teacher is about a hour away but there is a guitar teacher nearby that says he can teach bass also. Obviously at some point I will want to seek instruction from the best bassist I can find. However, I am wondering if there would really be much of a difference for the first year or so.

Fishing is fishing as to what you catch,If going for a certain species i can see that a bassist can be consulted but probably not necessary.

Many guitarists also learn to play a bit of bass, definitely enough to get you started. If you’re serious about being a bass player, you should definitely learn from a seasoned bassist. Guitarists that dabble in bass won’t be able to point out the fine details that a real bassist can.
