I just bought a MIM Fender Jazz bass and the neck pickup doesn’t work, its brand new straight from the factory and it doesn’t work.

I’d have someone who is qualified to fix your bass take a look at it. Seems like the electrical line that runs from your pickup to your electronics got disconnected. Its an easy fix, shouldnt cost much ( or anything at all). If that doesnt help, then theres a chance that the pickup just doesnt work, in which case I’d contact Fender’s customer support and have a little chat with them.

Does it have active electronics? You’ll need to replace (or install) the 9V battery in the in the back. If it doesn’t have active electronics, then there’s a wiring problem with the pickup, the volume pot, or the jack. Service would be required, since that’s not normally considered “user serviceable” could void the warranty.

take it back to the store you bought it from

like the 2nd poster said,
if you open it up, you might void the warranty

Fender comes with a 5 year warrenty that is transferable (if you bought it used). the MIM Fenders generally sound just as good the MIA but are kind’a hunks of shit as far as quality goes. Same with the ampifiers, they just kind of fall apart after awhile.

I agrree with the others above. If it’s not the battery it sounds like a manufacturing defect and it should be fully covered by the warranty. If you bought it at a local store take it back there and show them the problem. Otherwise contact Fender customer support.
