Question by : What instrument for me is better to play, Bass Guitar or Piano?
I want to play the Bass Guitar but my parents want me to play the piano, so I am thinking I could teach myself piano and I will take bass guitar lessons, but if I do that, it will be hard to learn piano and my parents will be disapointed in me, what should I do? I really want to play bass guitar but I want to play piano too.

As a piano player for over 10 years I can tell you that it is harder to learn piano by yourself

Piano is something that is better to learn when you very young, to older you get, the harder it gets. While Bass guitar or any other guitar is something that can be learned very quickly (at least quicker than piano)

Piano, you can not bring with you everywhere to practice while guitar is very potable….

If you did however had a experience playing a instrument (usually people start with piano as a base for music) it will make your learning experience with bass guitar faster…..because you will have the feel and understanding of the notes and stuff…

In my opinion, the piano sounds lovely and peacfull than the bass guitar. If you’re willing to pursue a career in music, then the bass guitar isn’t going to get you very far. It’s just a sourt of backing music and adds depth into melodies. Not that exciting. With a piano you can experiment with different sounds and tunes and make up lots of songs too.

So go for piano!

It’s definitely easier to teach yourself bass guitar. Bass guitar itself is relatively simple, though like any instrument, takes time to master.

How about learning both? Take piano lessons and teach yourself bass guitar.

If your ultimate goal is to play in a band, then both piano and bass and very sought after commodities.

Since your desire is in the area of bass guitar, I’d pursue that simply because the drive to succeed will be far greater.

Guitar players are a dime a dozen, but bass players are always a hot property.

Good keyboard players are even rarer to find, but as someone pointed out, a bass guitar will be far more portable then lugging a keyboard with you everywhere you go.

As a female, and a bass guitarist…bands will be beating down your door. One final hint….learn to sing.
