Q&A: Why is the ELectrig BASS GUITAR STill used when keyboards can imitate the sound almost to perfection?
Question by Susano V: Why is the ELectrig BASS GUITAR STill used when keyboards can imitate the sound almost to perfection?
Plus keyboards now have pitchwheels and mod wheels so they can imitate the sliding of the finger on the fret etc. And also , BASS is not like acoustic guitar where one of the beautiful things about the guitar is you hear the WEEP sound when the fingers slide to create new chords or slide a finger to a note……IN BAS you don’t really need that.
So why not just use Keyboards for BASS sound?

because there is no reason to replace a good musician with faked music, especially when the keyboardest can make music to go along with the bassist rather than replace him, it gives the music more complexity rather than just cutting a member or a certain sound out of the band. and do you honestly believe that bassists like flea, les claypool and john paul jones would be who they are if they could have done what they do on a keyboard, no way. true music needs a soul behind the instrument, there is a place for keyoards, and there is a place for bassists, and i truly dont believe that those 2 things should be one and the same.

A sampled bass sound played on a keyboard is NOWHERE NEAR a real bass player, and never will be. There’s no way you could create the nuances of an actual bass player with a keyboard. It’s a different instrument, and that’s that.
Samplers and synthesizers can create a ton of great sounds, but they can’t fool the ear of a professional musician, or even an astute listener.
Apparently you haven’t heard any good bass players who put emotion into their playing.
And no, they do not sound exactly alike. Any musician can instantly tell when a synth or keyboard is being used.
