Ok, I have to ask, semi-jokingly. Is that toneprint feature subject to interference? I mean could some douche from the audience be like – “Hehe checks this outs…I’m goings to turns this guys chorus intos a flajahs yah and mess with his solos.”
I don’t want to be playing bass and also watching people fiddle on their iphones.
3:50 “it can also do polyphony, check it out”
*gives us the finger*
does the controlpedal from the bigger amps work with this one also?
my EBS drome 150 is being replaced with this one for sure.
will it bust the speakers on my guitar amp if i use my bass with it
Fajniutki i mocny, uwielbiam ten piec
Does anyone know if this can help make tones ranging between John Entwistle’s Live at Leeds tone (which I believe it can) and some more metal tones like Alex Webster, David Ellefson, or Robert Trujillo (which I’m skeptical of), or Prog tones like Geddy’s or Chris Squire’s (Which I’m not sure of either). Btw I’m going to be using a Jackson Concert Bass V.
I think it’s time to trade in the old swr! Lol
Fricken sticker at the bottom, if you peal it off like most would do, it peals off the black paint with it. its a easy fix but still, they could have used a different kind of glue that wouldn’t cause a problem. hey TC we don’t get paid for Advertising. Very nice amp Guys.
you can always stick it through the pa
The 250 should be quite enough for ‘small-medium sized’ gigs..
I need a new combo bass amp for small-medium sized gigs. I want the bg250 because of the toneprint. But then again I want the BG500 because of the 500 watts. Is there a huge difference in power between these two? 1×15 inch speaker can only do so much. I need help deciding which to get! Im willing to sacrifice the toneprint if the bg500 is louder by a longshot Thanks
Really, this stuff is impressive o_o
I’ve got a Peavey TNT115 that does really nice job for rehearsals (I’ve got a stoner/sludge band, so my drummer isn’t shy at all). Also I’ve been playing in bars and outdoor gigs with it, it does the job quite well. So I wouldn’t even ask myself for the BG250, which appears to be really more powerful
Haha – I’m thinking on getting one myself, for my own studio
I KNOW that 15″+6″ (a fEARful cab) pumped with 500W RMS is loud enough with a lot of headroom (master volume on 12 o’clock) and pretty LOUD drummer, I also played ashdown 2×10 combo which also did a pretty good job volume-wise. I’ve seen guys playing ampeg BA100 in (very) small club, so I don’t believe all that “you need at least 4×10 and 500W to play rock” crap anymore. (moreover, I had some cheap 4×10 and it was much quieter than my fEARful).
Could an actual owner of BG250 elaborate on this?
I need that octaver in a pedal !!
bah. i’ll need to buy an Android or iphone to work the tonepint thing. =P
I’ve forwarded your request.
I’d say it has plenty of gain – but do check it out for yourself, before deciding
the big question is – will it be loud enough to play rock rehearsals and gigs in small clubs? if it will then i’m selling my EDEN halfstack. this combo has UNBELIEVABLE features for the price!
If it sounds half as good as in this demo, it really outmaneuvers the competition, considering the retail price. An amp of that weight and such a fat sound, plus the smart EQ and the toneprint feature – definately seems worth checking out. Cant wait to get my hands on one of these
Amazing, thank you for sharing!
The Musicman sounds awesome, even without the active electronic.
Would you please tell me what kind of strings you are using? Thanks a lot!
Thanks for going thru all the trouble! Overall, I liked the Hiwatt, esp on the dirt clips…I’m sure with tweaking there could be many surprises, but this test gave a great overview of each amps character…kudos!
Sound City sounds so f****in good… sweet mellow tone
I liked the JCM800 best, Hiwatt second best. Go figure!
Great comparison. But it’d make things clearer if you wrote the numbers you refer to next to the name of the amp in the description of the vid. It is not obvious to understand which amp corresponds to which number.
eg : Sound city amp : is it nº 3 (order listed at the begining of the vid) or nº 5 (“reading” order- left/right & up/down) “, or nº 6 (order you give in the written description). I think everyone would appreciate that.
Great job anyway. And a nice basshead collection as well
I personally liked the Hiwatt’s sound. I think the Orange was clanky-maybe could be EQ’s better-but would definitely not be on my wish list. That said, all tonal preference in sound is very subjective!
As I said before… These are my amps / my friends amps. So there were no Ampegs / Mesas available. More amps coming later… Let’s see what the next lineup will be.
Was it Orange or Orange – Matamp? Not too many 70′s Orange bass amps around I think. My JCM had a bad bias circuit… That’s why the blown tubes.
Orange doesn’t really benefit from this center EQ thing. Check out some AD200B demos and you’ll hear the true nature of this amp. It is an AMAZING amp indeed.
It is. But it’s not available anymore. It’s a limited Custom Shop run. Check out Orang amps site there’s a story about this amp under the Heritage menu.
Well I never had one. Right now I’m searching for a V-4B. That would be a cool amp to have. The amps on this video are mine / my friends. So that’s the reason there is no Ampegs featured.
was just wondering where is the ampeg and mesa’s only the best tube amps of all time
I HATE THE EL34 SO MUCH THAT IT HURTS!
Back in 1973 when I was a teenager, my dad got me an Orange bass amp with the 2×15 scoop bass cabinet
It ran so hot the solder would melt
He tried to fix it but it kept on overheating and blow the fuses
Yeah something in the output was shorted out
We got a refund.
It’s funny you had a very simular experience.
The carpentry and good looks, made these very nice to have around.
Back then it was Wishbone Ash, a brother group from the UK.
it’s amazing how much the orange amp didn’t hold out in comparison… i used to think these things were awesome.
Sounds like Rooster to me.
that orange is really for bass? ‘Cause i don’t find it on the net…if someone can help me!
so i can safely assume youre not an ampeg fan?
Thanks for the vid! I knew I would love the Orange tone but I didn’t realize how much I liked Hiwatt…
Mine keeps blowing power amp tubes… So I ordered new cabs and some resistors and (once again) new tubes to it. Got to get it fixed since it’s one awesome amp when working as it is supposed. What’s the problem in your JCM?
Which AIC song? Just wondering since I really like AIC.
Damn that intro song sucks donkey balls. Oh well, nice video nonetheless!
I lov my jcm800 super bass. I genuinely brilliant and overlooked amp. Sadly mine died yesterday
The intro of the song in this video is a fucking Alice In Chains rip off straight through!
