Guitar Lesson – Stairway to Heaven (solo) by Led Zep with tabs
Thank you for making this my most popular video! This solo is relatively straightforward (at least compared to other solos I have done on YouTube), so there is not a lot for me to explain in the video, other than sharing the notes being played and a few tips. However, if you have questions, please let me know and I will try to answer them as time allows. Rock on! Here are the sections of the solo, and where they start. Section #1 – 1:00 Section #2 – 1:48 Section #3 – 2:20 Section #4 – 2:52 Section #5 – 3:13 Section #6 – 3:35 Section #7 – 4:18 Section #8 – 5:01 Section #9 – 6:03 Section #10 – 6:42 Section #11 – 7:26 Section #12 – 8:19 I have been asked multiple times now about my amplifier settings, so I thought I would share the following. It’s been a while since I posted this video, but here is a general idea of the settings. Please keep in mind that there are a lot of factors that go into tone, not just the amplifier. For example, the type of guitar, pickups, strings, pick used, and even your fingers and how you attack the strings. In other words, just because the settings work for me, doesn’t mean they will sound the same for you. Treble: 6 or 7 Middle: 5 or 6.. I also used a separate rack-mount EQ to boost the mids probably 8-10k at 1khz. However, you can simply turn your mids up to 7 or 8. Bass: 5 Presence: 5 or 6 Gain: 6 or 7, however, it also depends on what type of amplifier and channel you may be using. For example, I am using the “Crunch” channel on my Peavey …
SUBSCRIBE! Working on more original music! I love feedback, and please rate too! I wrote this song junior year of high school (so around 2007 or 2008), and I have performed it three or four times with a few different musicians. I’ve gotta thank Josef Kay for helping to write some of the bass parts back then and influencing how this song turned out. Also, these drum parts are somewhat based on what Nico Spence played when we performed. I have updated riffs and changed a few things, but the song is generally the same as it was when it was written. If you’re wondering why it’s not quite as technical as my first original YouTube upload, it’s because I wrote the song a while ago. But I hope you still enjoy it regardless. I recorded the song using Reaper as my DAW. The guitar and bass were recorded by me, direct into the computer with no microphones or amps. I used Guitar Rig 3 for the guitar tones. I wrote out the drum parts and ran the midi file through a virtual instrument for the realistic sound because I had no way of miking and recording my own live drums. As with my last YouTube upload, this song is still untitled. I am planning on putting up an EP in the not-too-distant future after I get a couple more songs finished, and by then I will come up with names for all of my songs at last haha. My guitar on the recording and in this video is a Schecter Hellraiser C-1 FR, and the bass is an old Squier P-Bass. Both are tuned standard. Copyright 2010 Steven DeMartini

i hope that aint your real hair
jimmy page will be proud of you.>>
Thank you, thanks to your video, I finally learned this solo. A very good way to present information. All clear, short and clear!
Starting out I usually play it in 72 bpm, then at the Am7 chords I speed up to 78 bpm.
I speed the tempo to about 88 bpm when Plant starts singing “If theres a bustle in your hedgerow, don’t be alarmed now…”
The interlude with the Dsus is 98 bpm, so is the solo.
Righ after the solo when it gets into the power chords, I play 102 bpm.
You’re welcome and good luck
One day later, almost there, almost there!Practice practice practice! And thanks, great tut
It helps a lot, and it depresses me cause it’s been one hour already and still I can’t nail it, even if it’s supposed to be straightforward
Thanks for the way you disected this holy grail solo. Awesome. Rock on!
Hey there, it’s been over 3 years so I’m having a hard time remembering where I got the backing track. However, I get a lot of my backing tracks from guitarbackingtrack . com.
Hi, I can’t answer exactly how many bpm to play it at. It would depend on your comfort level. For a song like this, I usually start by slowing down to approximately 3/4 of the original speed. If the solo has really fast passages (which this doesn’t, relative to most stuff I learn), I go down further. 1/2 speed is the slowest I ever go when learning.
hello. how many bpm should I play it to learn? i play the guitar for 3 years.
This really helped me out alot..
Thank YOU!!
thanks a lot…. been tryin to learn this for quite a while now,,, think i got a hang of it now.
Depends on how much you practice
Probably because I didn’t record this all in one setting… or I really smelled bad that day
how long would it take to learn this if your a beginner
Thanks so much! You’ve put me at work for the next six weeks at least. Some day I’ll get it but not half of what you’re doing man. But hey, I have to build my guitars too!!!
Suonud????
Thanks for this lesson!
Whe do you keep changing T shirts?
can you send backtrack link
REALLY THANK YOU, YOU ARE AMAZING! <3
Thank you. Excellent
Great lesson. Great technique
Muy buena lección! Terminé con los dedos desgastados por los bends pero vale la pena practicarla, muy buena clase! Gracias!
Very inspiring.
This song is superb! Add some keyboardsolo’s in it!
2:30-2:54!
I’m supporting the “Fenriz Approved” sticker of approval. A decently honest approach from a drummer that cares about the genre that has currently lost itself.
Go listen to some Celtic Frost or Kreator or Manilla Road or even The Sword and you’ll see that each of those bands still have heavy metal elements. Distorted guitars isn’t a good enough excuse. Sure, it’s allowed to be progressive, but when it’s more prog than metal, you have to wonder if it really is prog metal.
This is awesome man. Exactly the kind of music that I was looking for. Would you listen to some of my home recording stuff and give me some constructive criticism? I’m just starting out, but I play a very similar style to you. I really would appreciate it. Honestly.
Who the fuck are you? I hate to break it to you, but I’m pretty sure you’re a fucking nobody, you loser.
Well, it’s not metal. Just saying. Popular metal subgenres of today have distanced themselves too far from their roots to still have the correct attributes of heavy metal. Metalcore and Prog are both terrible for missing the point.
And if it were to be Progressive Rock it’d fail there too.
Also, it doesn’t sound very original.
Sucks to be you, but you can’t do anything right.
I bet Chris Letchford is a big Cynic fan aswell
IBANEZ SRZ 520 tgb ?
great stuff dude, you’re amazing. hail ziltoid the omniscient!
Nice work man!!!
It’s good, but you said you like the feedback, so here’s mine. More Leadish melody type stuff also More shreddy and rhythmic. I’m not saying I can make a better song, it’s just what I’d like to here. Great stuff though mang.
wow thats sounds god damn amazing good job man
The only thing this guy needs is a freaking amazing band and more emotion with these songs. Feeling it is all that matters.
actually i was thinking more on the lines of Cynic. awesome tho, still
sick
..well, whatever the fuck that means.
I’ll book this lad in the future, but no one I know wants you on their stage.
How would you like to work with us and possibly make a record?
What video editing program is this?
you say it like its a bad thing
So sick! Love the bass solo part too!
great work man you might want to expiriment a little with effect pedals and such for fresh new sounds it might just spice it up a little but i love it allready
This is very impressive, nice job.
Wow! Very nice work! I have been listening to Prog Rock for over 40 years now and though I am not and have never been a fan of metal, I am a fan of good work and this is truly excellent work. You play with machine like precision and I mean that in a good way, ala Robert Fripp. I will certainly check out your other videos. Keep up the magnificent work. High School? I can hardly believe it.
