@killerkoala79 They are one of the most easy and effective ways to create or especially improvise a solo (rock, hard rock, blues). Root note is used to identify the key of the scale. For example, if the root is A, then the scale will be the A minor pentatonic. Connecting the penta scales together can be done with the musical modes. There are different patterns with the same notes of the Diatonic (main) scale.
I suggest you to use for now the main scale and try to improvise over backing tracks.

Let’s say there is a song that starts off with a G chord. Does that mean the song is in the key of G?
And if it is, does that mean you play a G scale trough the whole song or do you switch between scales, like chords?
I don’t quite get it.

Marty, just want you to know that you’ve been touching a lot of people, not just in United States but all over the world, by generously sharing us or should I say teaching us all you know about guitar. Honestly, there’s a lot of guitar instructors out there trying to teach just like you but believe me, they don’t seem so passionate.

@XIIdmb53IIX Listen to the music and spend some time with the Minor Pentatonic. For example… try a couple of Black Sabbath songs with the A Minor and some Judas Priest in E Minor, sooner or later you’ll find a lick that sounds good or from a solo you remember well. The Pentatonic Scales are pretty much universal, just experiment.

How come you used major pentatonics during the D7 and minor during the G7? Since a 7 chord functions as either a major or a minor chord, can’t you use either during both chords? Because both D and G would be in the 12 Bar Blues in D being the one and the 4.

@ZYTUSA Remember with intervals you have to specify ascending or descending. So: D to G is a 4th ascending, G to D is a 5th ascending. Flip that and D to G descending is a 5th, G to D descending is a 4th. See that?
