He said it has an Active/Passive switch…meaning Yes, it will work without batteries.

@Vizillar2505 I believe he said this was a mahogany body. That would probably make it a bit warmer than a normal ash Music Man.

any idea what the body is made of? the al sounds kinda warmer than other mm (maybe it’s the pu, how could I know) and also, how does the al do in sustain department? kind of a sustain freak here, dont know why

I wonder what this sounds like with a Streamliner 900! Im inbetween a 4 or 5 string version. Cant decide! I play both 4 and 5 string basses, but not sure which I should go for with the Big Al.

Hey Ed! Great review (as always)! I’m a little new to the various sounds one can get out of active basses. I could appreciate some of the tonal differences it makes with the EQ, but i don’t get what the series and parallel circuitry brings to the table…

- The Big Al 5 has the same neck as the SR5 and Sterling 5, the Big Al 4 is the same neck as the Sterling 4.
