MarloweDK: I sorry for not thanking you with sooner. You have revived my love for playing bass. Your lessong humble yet rejuvinate me to continue improving and creating. You are a 1st-class bass instructor. Every lesson has not only taught me something new, but challenged me by exposing my own weaknesses in my playing. It’s refreshing to have that 2nd set of ears, and insight to destroying creative blocks I experience trying to compose original bass lines. You CAN teach and old dog new tricks!

Its all cool with the notes..but I play all that shit without the bullsit of the notes… I hate notes.. Just play whatever notes you like and feel right……why make it so technical…..its just 4 strings….just kill the strings ……everybody played this before..why make it so technical……..just my opinion…..

Great advice, not just for bass playing but I think life in general: whatever you do, make sure you do it your own way!

Thanks Joe!

As I said, nothing instructive. I’m a beginner, so yeah, I suck at the bass like all beginners. Was hoping for some proper instruction from your vid – but saw NADA! Even as a beginner I can see it is just crap! It’s a bit hollow, as most people would agree. You just wanna get yer face seen. What a dork!

If you are still having that problem, a lot of metal players use 3 fingers to do the “gallops” or triplets. Sometimes trying too hard to play it can tense up your fingers. Try to relax and just go with the rhythm. I hope this helps!

Is there any specific tips for building up strength on your right hand? I am trying to learn One by Metallica, and i can play the fast triplets towards the end for about 4 bars and then my fingers kinda seize up and it slows everything right down and really hurts. Will that just come in practice? Would you reccomend using an extra finger?

hi coolbear , I just find out your videos and I saw that I can learn a lot from you. :) I was so confused about those pentatonic and minor scales but your lesson on your website is just perfect for me ; I’m playing bass since 5 months and having the most fun after 5 years of playing classical guitar ! Thank you , and I am really glad to have someone like you around ! :)
