Bass Guitar Scale - Minor Scale

I use the bass guitar minor scale when I ‘m playing rock, some jazz and especially blues as well as playing it under minor chords in any style of music. The minor guitar/bass scale has a cool blues tone that is created by flattening the 3rd and 7th notes in a major scale. If you took the C major scale, to make it a minor scale you would play the following notes on your bass: C-D-Eb-F-G-A-Bb-C
I generally use the following two positions or patterns to play this scale on my bass guitar. Once you learn these two patterns it should be easy for you to transfer this bass scale up and down your guitar.

 Here’s that same scale with the root note (X) starting on the 2nd string:

The notes that make up this scale are also the same notes used in the scales relative major. In other words, an A minor scale is the same notes as a C major scale. To learn about the major scale read this post: Bass Guitar scale - Major Scale
